The Gabbatoir
The Gabbatoir, also known as The Gabbatoir Meat Market, was a historic Victorian-era abattoir and meat processing facility in Brisbane, Australia. Opened in 1893, it was designed to centralize and improve the hygienic processing of livestock before butchering and distribution. The facility featured large, durable structures, including slaughter rooms and refrigeration units, to handle a high volume of meat production safely. It played a significant role in Brisbane's food industry until its closure in the 1990s. Today, the site has been redeveloped into a mixed-use precinct, blending heritage conservation with modern urban use.
