The Freudian Slip
A Freudian slip, also known as a "slip of the tongue," occurs when someone says something unintentionally that reveals hidden thoughts, feelings, or desires. It suggests that the subconscious mind influences our speech, often exposing thoughts we might prefer to keep private. For example, accidentally saying a loved one's name instead of someone else's could indicate underlying feelings. While slips are common and not necessarily meaningful, Freud believed they provide insight into our true subconscious mind, revealing conflicts or emotions we're not fully aware of or choosing to suppress.
