The Franklin Expedition

The Franklin Expedition was a British voyage in 1845 aimed at exploring the Arctic and finding a potentially shorter route to Asia. Led by Sir John Franklin, it involved two ships, HMS Erebus and HMS Terror. They became ice-bound and trapped in the icy wilderness, and all crew members eventually perished. The mystery of their fate persisted for years, but subsequent explorations uncovered evidence of their struggles, including abandoned supplies and the ships' remains. The expedition highlighted the dangers of Arctic exploration and contributed to increased knowledge of the region’s perilous environment.
