The Floating Piers
The Floating Piers was an art installation by Christo and Jeanne-Claude, located on Italy’s Lake Iseo from June to July 2016. It consisted of 2.5 million bright yellow polypropylene cubes forming a continuous, walkable path stretching 3 kilometers across the water, connecting the island of Monte Isola to the mainland. The structure floated on the lake’s surface through specially designed pontoons, allowing visitors to stroll across the water, experience the landscape uniquely, and enjoy different perspectives of the lake and surrounding mountains. It was a temporary, immersive artwork celebrating both nature and human creativity.
