The Five Empresses
The Five Empresses were powerful women who ruled China during the Tang Dynasty (618–907 AD), renowned for their influence and strength. They include Wu Zetian, the only woman to officially become emperor, who expanded the empire and promoted arts and religion; Empress Wei, who wielded political power in her husband's reign; Empress Wu Hou, another influential empress consort; Wu Zetian's mother, Wu Zhao, who had political sway; and Empress Zhang, known for her wisdom and stability. Together, they symbolize female authority and leadership in a historically male-dominated society, shaping China's political and cultural legacy.
