The First World War (document)
The First World War, also known as World War I, was a global conflict from 1914 to 1918 involving many nations, primarily centered in Europe. It was triggered by political tensions, militarism, alliances, and the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria. The war saw trench warfare, advanced weaponry, and massive casualties. It ended with the defeat of the Central Powers (including Germany and Austria-Hungary) by the Allies (such as Britain, France, and Russia). The war drastically changed political boundaries, led to the fall of empires, and set the stage for future conflicts.
