The Farm Laws (2020)
The Farm Laws (2020) in India were a set of three agricultural reforms aimed at deregulating the farm sector. They allowed farmers to sell their produce freely outside government-controlled markets, promoted contract farming with private companies, and eased restrictions on storing grains. The government's goal was to increase efficiency, private investment, and reduce crop waste. However, many farmers feared these laws would favor corporate buyers over them, risking lower prices and reduced bargaining power. This led to widespread protests, especially among small farmers, who demanded the laws be repealed or amended. In 2021, the government eventually repealed these laws to address their concerns.
