The Extended Self
The Extended Self is a concept suggesting that our identity isn't just contained within our mind or body but includes the physical objects and possessions that are meaningful to us. For example, our car, home, or even clothes can reflect who we are and influence how we see ourselves. These possessions become part of our self-identity because they represent our tastes, values, or experiences. Essentially, the Extended Self expands our sense of self beyond our body to include the things we own and cherish, shaping our personal identity in a broader sense.
