The Extended Mind (theory)
The Extended Mind theory suggests that our thinking isn't confined to our brain alone but involves external tools and environments. For instance, using a notebook, calculator, or smartphone to help solve problems extends our cognitive processes into these physical objects. These tools become integral parts of our thinking system, effectively outsourcing memory and reasoning. This view challenges the traditional idea that only the brain is responsible for thought, emphasizing how our interactions with external resources actively shape and support our mental functions.
