The Export Credit Guarantee Department (ECGD)

The Export Credit Guarantee Department (ECGD) was a UK government agency that helped UK companies sell goods abroad by offering insurance against risks like non-payment or political instability in the buyer’s country. It aimed to promote international trade by providing security and confidence to exporters, ensuring they could expand into new markets without excessive fear of loss. The ECGD also supported British exports through guarantees and loans, helping to strengthen the UK’s economy and global trade relationships. In 2017, it was rebranded as UK Export Finance (UKEF).
