The Etruscan League

The Etruscan League was a loose confederation of twelve city-states in ancient Italy, primarily located in what is now Tuscany. Formed around the 7th century BCE, it served as a cooperative political and military alliance, allowing member cities to coordinate efforts, share resources, and maintain regional stability. Each city retained its independence but joined the league for mutual benefit, especially during external threats. The league played a significant role in shaping Etruscan culture and politics, but its influence declined with the rise of Rome, eventually dissolving by the 4th century BCE as Rome expanded dominance over the region.
