The Error Theory

The Error Theory is a philosophical idea about morality. It suggests that moral statements—like "Lying is wrong"—are believed to be true by people, but in reality, they are all false because there are no moral facts or truths underlying these statements. In other words, when we make moral claims, we are mistaken because our beliefs about moral realities are false; we are "in error" about the existence of objective moral truths. This perspective highlights that while people sincerely hold moral beliefs, these beliefs do not correspond to actual facts.
