The Epley Formula

The Epley Formula is a method used to estimate the one-repetition maximum (1RM)—the maximum weight a person can lift once for a specific exercise. It's useful for setting safe and effective training loads. The formula considers the weight lifted and the number of repetitions performed to fatigue. Mathematically, it’s: 1RM = weight lifted / (1.0278 - 0.0278 × repetitions). For example, if you lift 100 pounds for 10 reps, the formula estimates your 1RM at about 120 pounds. This helps trainers and athletes tailor workouts without risking injury.
