The Education Act 1944
The Education Act 1944, often called the Butler Act, was a major law in England and Wales that reformed the education system. It made secondary education free and compulsory for children aged 5 to 15, expanded access to education for all, and increased funding for schools. The act aimed to provide more equal educational opportunities, reduce class inequality, and prepare students better for adult life and employment. It also established local education authorities to oversee schools, marking a significant shift toward a more comprehensive and inclusive education system.
