The East African Campaign

The East African Campaign during World War I was a series of military operations from 1914 to 1918 in regions including German East Africa (modern-day Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi). It involved Allied forces, primarily British and African troops, fighting against German colonial forces led by General Paul von Lettow-Vorbeck. The campaign aimed to control East Africa and weaken Germany's African holdings. It became a prolonged guerrilla-style conflict, lasting four years, with Lt. Von Lettow-Vorbeck successfully resisting larger Allied forces and tying down significant resources, making it one of the longest campaigns of WWI.
