The Duke of Windsor

The Duke of Windsor was the former King Edward VIII of the United Kingdom, who abdicated the throne in 1936 to marry Wallis Simpson, an American divorcee, which was considered unacceptable at the time. As a result, he gave up his royal title and role, becoming the Duke of Windsor. He later married Wallis and lived mostly in exile, working as a businessman. His decision to abdicate and his relationship with Wallis caused significant controversy and impacted the monarchy's history.
