The Dublin Castle Conference
The Dublin Castle Conference was a secret meeting held in 1921 between leaders of the Irish Republican Army (IRA) and British officials. Its purpose was to negotiate a truce in the Irish War of Independence, aiming to reach an agreement that would bring peace and establish self-governance for parts of Ireland. The conference resulted in the Anglo-Irish Treaty, which ended the conflict and created the Irish Free State, granting Ireland a large degree of independence while remaining part of the British Commonwealth. This treaty ultimately led to Irish civil war due to disagreements over its terms.
