The Double-Blind Study
A double-blind study is a research method used to test how effective a treatment or drug is, while eliminating bias. In such studies, neither the participants nor the researchers know who is receiving the real treatment and who is getting a placebo (a non-active substance). This setup helps ensure that expectations do not influence the results or interpretations. By controlling these biases, double-blind studies provide more reliable evidence of a treatment’s true effects, making the findings more trustworthy for medical decision-making.
