The doctrine of unjust enrichment

The doctrine of unjust enrichment occurs when one person benefits at another’s expense in a way that’s unfair or unjust, especially if there's no legal reason for the benefit. In such cases, the law may require the person who gained to compensate the other to restore fairness. It generally applies when someone receives a benefit through mistake, fraud, or without a contract, and it would be unfair for them to keep that benefit without paying for it. The goal is to prevent unjust gain and promote fairness by requiring restitution where appropriate.
