The Dirty War

The Dirty War (La Guerra Sucia) refers to a period in Argentina from 1976 to 1983 when the military dictatorship targeted suspected leftists, activists, and anyone perceived as an opponent. The government used brutal tactics, including forced disappearances, torture, and killings, resulting in the disappearance of around 30,000 people. It aimed to eradicate opposition and instill fear. The war left deep social and psychological scars in Argentina. In the years since, efforts to seek justice for the victims and acknowledge this dark chapter of history continue, shaping Argentina's remembrance and human rights policies.
