The Diggers (historical group)

The Diggers were a radical English group in the 1640s, during the English Civil War. They believed the land should be accessible to all and sought to create communal, self-sufficient communities by cultivating common land. Inspired by ideas of equality and social justice, they challenged property rights and promoted direct action to distribute land and resources. Although their efforts were short-lived due to opposition from the government and landowners, their principles influenced later social and political movements advocating for equality and communal ownership.
