The Diggers
The Diggers were a group of 17th-century English activists, also known as True Levellers, who aimed to promote equality and social justice through communal land ownership. Active around 1649-1650 during the English Civil War period, they believed land should be shared collectively rather than owned by private individuals. They practiced egalitarian ideas, advocating for common ownership and fair distribution of resources. Although their movement was short-lived and faced opposition, the Diggers are remembered as early pioneers of social and economic reform, challenging traditional notions of property rights and hierarchy.
