The Dewey Decimal System
The Dewey Decimal System is a method used by libraries to organize books and other materials by subject. It divides knowledge into ten main categories, each assigned a three-digit number ranging from 000 to 999. For instance, 500 is for Science, while 900 represents History. Within these categories, books are further sorted by more specific topics using additional decimal points. This system makes it easier for people to find and retrieve information since related subjects are grouped together in an organized manner. It was developed by Melvil Dewey in the late 19th century and remains widely used today.
