The Dale-Chall Readability Formula

The Dale-Chall Readability Formula is a tool used to estimate how easy or difficult a piece of writing is to understand. It does this by checking the words used against a list of common, familiar words. If a lot of difficult, unfamiliar words are present, the writing is considered harder to read. The formula also considers sentence length, with longer sentences generally making the text harder to follow. By combining these factors, it provides a score that indicates the grade level needed to comfortably read and understand the material.
