The Cultural Revocation of Tibet
The Cultural Revolution in Tibet (1966–1976) was a period of intense political upheaval initiated by China's Communist government. It aimed to eliminate traditional Tibetan religious practices, cultural expressions, and social customs that were viewed as symbols of feudal and backward ways. Monasteries were destroyed, monks and nuns persecuted, and Tibetan identity was suppressed in favor of Chinese Communist ideology. This upheaval caused widespread social and cultural loss, damaging Tibet’s spiritual and cultural heritage, and had lasting effects on Tibetan society and identity.
