The Cost of Knowledge campaign
The Cost of Knowledge campaign was initiated by mathematician Peter Suber in 2012 to challenge high subscription fees for academic journals. Many universities and researchers struggled to afford access to vital scholarly articles, which Limited public access and slowed scientific progress. The campaign encouraged academics to refuse to publish or review for certain journals until publishers reduced prices or adopted more open access policies. Its goal was to raise awareness about the high costs of accessing research and to push publishers toward more affordable, transparent, and open dissemination of knowledge, ultimately promoting greater openness in scientific communication.
