The Cooperative Commonwealth Federation
The Cooperative Commonwealth Federation (CCF) was a political movement in Canada founded in 1932 that aimed to improve the economic and social well-being of ordinary Canadians. It focused on promoting social welfare programs, public ownership of key industries, and stronger workers’ rights, responding to the hardships caused by the Great Depression. The CCF was a precursor to today’s New Democratic Party (NDP). It represented a shift toward social democratic ideas, seeking to reduce inequality and create a more equitable society through government intervention and collective action.
