The Congo Reform Association

The Congo Reform Association was a humanitarian organization active in the early 20th century that aimed to expose and stop the brutal exploitation of the Congo by King Leopold II of Belgium and the Congo Free State. They worked to raise awareness about forced labor, violent treatment, and human rights abuses inflicted on the Congolese people. Through campaigning, journalism, and advocacy, the association helped generate international support, leading to reforms and the eventual transfer of control from King Leopold to the Belgian government in 1908. Their efforts significantly contributed to calling attention to colonial abuses and promoting humanitarian principles.
