The Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act (CARA)
The Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act (CARA) is a law enacted in 2016 to address the opioid crisis. It aims to improve prevention, treatment, and recovery efforts by expanding access to medication-assisted treatment, increasing the availability of naloxone (a medication that can reverse overdoses), and supporting community-based programs. CARA also focuses on improving data collection, reducing the stigma around addiction, and strengthening law enforcement partnerships to prevent illegal drug trafficking. Overall, it’s designed to save lives and help individuals and communities recover from opioid addiction through a comprehensive, coordinated approach.
