The Compact of Free Association

The Compact of Free Association is a treaty between the United States and certain Pacific Island nations, such as the Federated States of Micronesia, Palau, and the Marshall Islands. It grants the U.S. military access to these territories for defense purposes and provides financial aid, in exchange for certain strategic rights. The agreements also allow citizens of these countries to live and work in the U.S. with special visas.
