The Commune of Paris

The Paris Commune was a brief revolutionary government that ruled Paris from March to May 1871, following France's defeat in the Franco-Prussian War. It emerged as a response to political instability, social inequality, and dissatisfaction with the national government. The Communards aimed to implement radical changes like workers' rights, gender equality, and decentralized governance. Their rule was marked by efforts to create a more just society, but it was also marked by violent clashes with government forces. The Commune was ultimately suppressed after about two months, but it remains a significant symbol of workers' and revolutionary movements.
