the Committee to Re-elect the President (CREEP)
The Committee to Re-elect the President (CREEP) was a fundraising organization created to support President Richard Nixon’s 1972 re-election campaign. It collected donations from various sources to finance campaign activities. However, it became widely known for illegal activities, including the Watergate break-in—an illegal attempt to wiretap the opposition’s headquarters. The subsequent investigation revealed misconduct at high levels of government, leading to Nixon’s resignation. CREEP's actions highlighted the importance of campaign integrity and led to reforms to prevent such abuses in the future.
