The COM-B model

The COM-B model is a framework for understanding behavior. It stands for Capability, Opportunity, and Motivation, which are the three components necessary for a behavior to occur. Capability refers to an individual's skills and knowledge; Opportunity involves the external factors that make the behavior possible, such as environment and resources; Motivation encompasses the internal drives and desires that influence decisions. When all three elements are present, a behavior is more likely to happen. This model is often used in health promotion and behavior change strategies to identify what influences people's actions.
