The Co-operative

A co-operative, or co-op, is a business owned and run by its members—who may be customers, employees, or residents—working together to meet their common needs or interests. Profits are shared among members based on their contribution or usage, rather than being driven by outside investors. Co-ops promote democratic control, meaning each member typically has an equal say in decisions. They can operate in various sectors, like retail, agriculture, housing, or finance, fostering community engagement and ensuring that the enterprise works in the best interests of its members rather than solely for profit.
