The Co-op
A co-op, or cooperative, is an organization owned and managed by its members, who share the benefits and responsibilities. Unlike traditional businesses driven by profit, co-ops focus on serving members’ needs, whether they are consumers, workers, or producers. Members participate in decision-making and often receive dividends or discounts based on their use of the co-op’s services. Examples include food co-ops, housing co-ops, and worker cooperatives. The goal of a co-op is to promote cooperation, fairness, and shared economic well-being among its members.
