the Civilian Conservation Corps
The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) was a New Deal program established in 1933 to combat unemployment during the Great Depression. It provided young men with work in natural resource conservation projects such as planting trees, building parks, and improving infrastructure. Participants received job training, a modest wage, and room and board. The CCC aimed to boost the economy, promote environmental conservation, and give young men a sense of purpose. It operated until 1942, leaving a lasting legacy of public lands and infrastructure improvements across the United States.
