The Civic Arena
The Civic Arena, also known as the Mellon Arena, was an iconic indoor sports and events venue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Opened in 1961, it was famous for its distinctive domed roof, which was constructed without interior supports, providing an unobstructed interior space. It hosted hockey games, concerts, and other entertainment events for decades. The arena was home to the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins until 2010, and it played a significant role in the city's sports and cultural scene. Demolished in 2012, its unique design and history remain an important part of Pittsburgh's architectural and sporting legacy.
