The Christopher Commission

The Christopher Commission was formed in 1991 to investigate complaints about the Los Angeles Police Department, especially following the Rodney King beating and subsequent riots. Its goal was to identify issues within the department, such as misconduct, abuse of power, and lack of accountability. The commission recommended reforms including better training, oversight, and the establishment of new policies to improve police conduct and community relations. It played a key role in initiating changes aimed at making the LAPD more transparent and responsible, addressing systemic problems and restoring public trust.
