The Cathedral of Learning
The Cathedral of Learning is a towering, historic skyscraper-style university building at the University of Pittsburgh. Standing at 552 feet with 42 floors, it is one of the tallest educational structures in the Western Hemisphere. Opened in 1927, its Gothic Revival architecture resembles a medieval cathedral, symbolizing knowledge and learning. Inside, it houses classrooms, offices, and the International Children’s Festival. The building also features distinctive Collegiate Gothic design details, stained glass windows, and a Gothic-style interior. It serves as both a functional academic building and a landmark pride for the university community.
