The Cassini Division
The Cassini Division is a dark, wide gap between Saturn’s two largest moons, Titan and Rhea, in its ring system. This gap appears empty because it contains very few particles compared to the surrounding rings. The division is caused by gravitational interactions with Saturn’s moon Mimas, which clear out particles over time, maintaining the gap. Despite its apparent emptiness, the division still contains some small particles and dust, but it's significantly less dense than the nearby rings. It’s a natural consequence of gravitational forces shaping Saturn’s complex and beautiful ring system.
