The Caravan of Death

The Caravan of Death was a military mission by the Chilean Army in 1973, following the overthrow of President Salvador Allende. It involved a series of rapid, secretive patrols across the country to eliminate political opponents and suspected enemies, often without trial. Led by General Augusto Pinochet, the operation resulted in numerous extrajudicial killings, with estimates of hundreds of deaths. It was part of a broader effort to consolidate control after the coup, reflecting the violent suppression of dissent during Chile's transition to military rule.
