The Canada Baby-Friendly Initiative

The Canada Baby-Friendly Initiative (BFI) is a national program that promotes breastfeeding as the best nutrition for babies. It encourages hospitals, clinics, and communities to support mothers in breastfeeding by providing education, creating a welcoming environment, and implementing policies that facilitate successful breastfeeding. The goal is to improve infant health and development, as well as maternal well-being, by ensuring that new parents receive consistent, evidence-based support and information. BFI aligns with international standards set by the World Health Organization and UNICEF, aiming to normalize and promote breastfeeding as a fundamental aspect of infant care in Canada.
