Historically, caliphates have been expansive empires, like the Rashidun, Umayyad, and Abbasid, influencing culture, law, and politics across regions. Today, some groups seek to establish a caliphate as a form of Islamic governance, while many Muslims interpret it as a spiritual and historical concept rather than a political ideal.
