The Brownies' Book
The Brownies’ Book was a pioneering monthly magazine published from 1920 to 1921 aimed at African American children. Edited by W.E.B. Du Bois and Jessie Fauset, it featured stories, poems, illustrations, and articles that celebrated Black culture, history, and achievements. Its goal was to promote pride, education, and understanding among young Black readers at a time when mainstream media largely ignored or misrepresented them. The publication played a significant role in fostering a sense of identity and dignity, serving as an early example of culturally affirming children's literature and African American intellectual life.
