The British Transport Commission
The British Transport Commission (BTC), established in 1948, was a government organization responsible for overseeing and managing the UK's railways, trams, shipping, and later some road services. Its goal was to coordinate transportation across the country to improve efficiency and service quality. The BTC integrated several railway companies into a single organization, making transportation planning more unified. It operated until 1962, when its functions were transferred to separate entities like British Railways. The BTC played a key role in post-war efforts to modernize and nationalize transportation infrastructure in Britain.
