The British Admiralty
The British Admiralty was the government department responsible for the United Kingdom’s naval affairs, including maritime defense and the management of the Royal Navy. Founded in the 16th century, it played a key role in overseeing naval strategy, shipbuilding, and personnel. The Admiralty coordinated military operations at sea and contributed to Britain’s global influence and colonial expansion. In 1964, it was replaced by the Ministry of Defence’s Navy Department, but historically, it was the central authority ensuring Britain’s naval power was maintained and organized.
