The Boer War

The Boer War (1899-1902) was a conflict between the British Empire and Boer settlers—mainly of Dutch descent—in Southern Africa. The Boers sought to maintain their independence in territories rich in gold and diamonds, which attracted British interest. Tensions escalated into a brutal guerrilla war, with the British using harsh tactics, including concentration camps, to suppress the Boers. The war ended with the British victory, and the Boer territories were incorporated into the Union of South Africa. The conflict highlighted issues of imperialism, race, and colonial rule, having lasting impacts on the region’s history.
