The Black Report
The Black Report, published in 1980 by the UK’s Department of Health and Social Security, examined health inequalities across different social classes. It found that people in lower social groups generally experienced poorer health and higher death rates than wealthier groups. The report highlighted that socioeconomic factors, such as income, education, and occupation, significantly influence health outcomes. Its findings emphasized the need for policies addressing social inequalities to improve public health. Although controversial at the time, the report remains a key reference for understanding how social factors impact health disparities.
