The Black Panther Party and Archaeology
The Black Panther Party was a revolutionary organization founded in 1966 to advocate for African American rights and community self-defense. Archaeology is the study of human history through physical remains such as artifacts and structures. While they are different fields, archaeology can sometimes explore how marginalized groups, like those targeted by the Black Panther Party or other communities, lived, resisted, or forged identities in the past. Both highlight efforts—one social and political, the other academic—to understand and preserve human stories, power dynamics, and cultural heritage.
