The Black Hundreds
The Black Hundreds was a highly nationalist and monarchist movement in early 20th-century Russia, active mainly from 1905 to 1917. Comprising mostly ultra-conservative factions, they fiercely opposed liberal reforms, socialism, and the Russian Revolution. The group supported the autocratic rule of the Tsar and often used violent tactics, including pogroms against Jewish communities, to suppress perceived enemies. Their actions reflected intense resistance to modernization and democratization, advocating for a return to traditional Russian values and hierarchy. Ultimately, their hostility toward revolutionary change contributed to the instability that led to the fall of the Russian Empire.
